Project One

Design Esquisse – Food Kiosk

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

Project 1 deals with the understanding of materiality in relation to use and experience:

Materiality is seen as a setting for communal activities to convey meaning and associations as well as a function of structure and construction. We will be required to design a Food Kiosk, which is intended to showcase architectural form as a construct of materiality for a proposed set of activities. The exploration of themes centred around the notion of food preparation and consumption in this project will relate to the programmatic requirements in Project 2.

Outcome :

final board [Recovered] [Recovered].png

In this assignment, I am designing a food kiosk for frozen yogurt. The reason for choosing frozen yogurt is because I think it is fast to prepare, customers can just grab and go. Furthermore, who would not like to have something chilling and sweet at the same time healthy under a hot sun. It adds more pleasure to walk on the street under the hot sun or even shopping! To design a food kiosk that speaks for frozen yogurt, I have look into the swirling pattern of frozen yogurt when it is dispensed out, and it gives me an impression of smooth and clean. Further more, it is chilling. Therefore, the kiosk is curvy and not edgy to gives an impression of smoothness. I am using polycarbonate and white metal mesh to make it feels light and airy. Polycarbonate allows customers to see through the structure, it does not obstruct the view behind. Besides that, there are foldable tables with different heights for customers that would like to stay and enjoy their frozen yogurt. It caters perfectly to people of different age group, different height.

Reflection

This project does not only aims to design a food kiosk that attracts people, it also look deeper into ergonomics, which I have learnt in semester one and following semesters. To design a structure that fits into 2 carpark spaces is definitely challenging, I have put a lot of in thinking how to utilise the spaces optimumly. I think this is a good start for project 2 , especially in designing market stalls.
